Plot
Thrillers don’t really come as good as this. Jane the Ripper
is a modern take on the horrific events which occurred in 1888 throughout the
Whitechapel district. Although the film has been loosely centred around Jack
the Ripper it takes on a form of its own with its main character as the
protagonist, who is a jilted bride. These plot lines along with the gory
murders that take place, makes this film definitely one to see.
Review
Leaving aside its twists and turns the film raises moral
dilemmas begging the question as to how far we can go for the ones we love?
Jane is the archetypal woman who has gone unnoticed most of her life until she
finds Paul a man who is too good to be true. This results in the deaths of two
people a gruesome theme in the film. The role of Jane played by the young
actress Stacey Fahy is brilliantly executed and believable.
Significantly the use of the fast paced editing intensified
the feeling of impending doom and helped to create an atmosphere of fear. Much detail
and care was clearly taken to film scenes such as the suicide attempt. The
locations were also representative of the feeling of hopelessness as they were
dark, dim and desolate. Farah Warda the internationally renowned Director,
believes this is one her best works to date.
The film’s box-office prospects are anyone’s guess, but
it’s safe to say that the thriller crowd will not be dissapointed throughout. Mainstream audiences should not be put off by the title as this film has a lot more to offer than the title first suggests. This one off feature film explores
the darker side of a modern romance leaving one satisfied audience.
Verdict
The film is full of shocks and turns at every corner even if it does feel like a bit of a slow burner to start with. However for any short film fan out their its sure to please that appetite!
